Bloch Ladies Jason Samuels Smith Tap Shoe

My favorite form of dance is tap and it can be very therapeutic. There’s nothing like stomping your frustrations away! As like many tap aficionados, I get pretty excited when a tap professional gets involved with designing a tap shoe.

Bloch teamed up with American tap dancer, Jason Samuels Smith, to create a tap shoe that produces good sound and long lasting quality. The taps come already attached with a steel resonance plate for a perfect pitch. It’s classic oxford style and hard leather soles, it is sure to stand up to many stomps, shuffles, and scuffs.

Recital Time! What’s in Your Bag?

Spring is here which means it is time for performers to show their stuff at a recital. As a dancer, during this time I would make sure my dance bag contained a few essentials beside dance shoes and my arsenal of stage makeup. Here are my go-to items:

  • Antiperspirant because I sweat instead of “glisten” under those lights.
  • Hand towel in case need of wiping off shoes/costumes or sweat from my brow.
  • Small sewing kit (needle & thread) for any last minute costume or shoe fixes.
  • Extra: shoe strings, elastic for ballet slippers, bobby pins, safety pins.
  • A snack, especially during rehearsals.

New Blog: Talking About Dance and Performing on Stage

Hi there!

Kdancer Shadow dancer modeled after Karen’s ballet photo. Chris Anderson, photographer.

Have you ever wondered who that shadow dancer figure was on the Dee’s Dance Design website? It is a real person and it is in fact me, Karen. Some of you may already know me and others simply as Dee’s daughter. I’ve been taking dance classes since I was five years old. Dance has helped shape my life influencing me whether or not I am in a class or performing.

Dee’s Dance Design supplies the means for individuals to pursue their performance dreams. For over 20 years, Dee has provided dance shoes and apparel for performers in the Portland area. With this new blog on Dee’s site, I will be sharing my love of dance, tips I’ve learned, and experiences performing on stage. Along the way I’ll share news of what is happening at the store and around Portland. Taking dance classes has enriched my life and given me confidence. It is about time I start sharing my experiences with dancers and anyone performing for others.
